Health care and industrial AI companies dominated CB Insights' latest annual AI 100. For the fifth year, the research firm ranked among the most promising private firms working in the AI space.
By the numbers:
This year's list includes 100 private market vendors from a pool of 6K+ companies.
The winners are based in 12 countries and work in 18 different industries. 64% are headquartered in the U.S., followed by 8% in the U.K., and 6% each in Israel and China.
Together, they've raised more than $11.7B in equity fundings from 700+ investors in 370+ deals since 2010.
A dozen are considered "unicorns," with $1B+ valuations. Their offerings range from data annotation to cybersecurity and enterprise search.
"The list is a testament to not just the breadth of AI’s impact but also the depth of automation within industries." — Deepashri Varadharajan, lead analyst for emerging tech at CB Insights.
CB says it chose winners based on factors like investor profile, R&D, market potential, Mosaic scores, and tech novelty. Based on a CB Insights' algorithm, Mosaic scores gauge a company's overall health and growth potential.
Healthcare was the most represented "core industry," with eight companies using AI for things like dental insurance, surgical tech, and clinical trials.
Nearly 50 are considered Insutrial AI companies, working in retail, law, gaming, and more. There were also "a number of vendors" focused on tools for data processing, computing, and AI deployment.
